Manchester Airport fundraising charity opportunity for runners

What an opportunity Car Hire Manchester Airport thinks runners have got, being able to run for charity around Manchester Airport perimeter.

Keen runners or just charity enthusiasts will get the opportunity to try a lap of the perimeter of Manchester Airport, in a new event. All involved will wear red and do a circuit around the country’s third largest airport for charity. The aim is to raise a minimum of £25 to take part, with a number of famous faces joining participants at the start.

The September event will follow a 4km route in aid of Flying Start, British Airways’ global charity partnership with Comic Relief UK, and Medcare, the airport’s charity, at the Wellspring Children’s Medical Centre in Kamutuuza, Uganda.

Anne-Marie Ryan, British Airways’ customer service manager Manchester, said “This is a great opportunity for a family fun day out to raise funds for two fantastic charities. We’re hoping to attract some serious fundraisers as well as some aviation fans.”

The starting point is the Runway Visitor Park and fundraisers will run round Manchester Airport’s runways following the Runway Two Nature Trail through the Bollin Valley which offers some fantastic viewing points for watching aircraft landing and taking off. Those competing at a more leisurely pace will be able to read information boards around the Trail giving information on woodlands and grasslands, ponds, the River Bollin tunnel, bats, archaeology and a sculpture of the British Airways Concorde made out of willow.

Wendy Sinfield, community relations manager at Manchester Airport, said “We are delighted to be able to join forces for such a worthwhile case. Where else can people get up close to a range of aircraft, do some exercise and raise money for good cases at the same time. We are sure the run will be a huge hit with aviation and fitness fans alike and we look forward to donning something red to hit the trail in September”.

Prizes will include British Airways flights to Paris or Barcelona for gold, a VIP Manchester Airport experience with free car parking and lounge access for silver, and a BA hamper for third place.
