With the news of the donation amount revealed Anne at Car Hire Manchester Airport is not surprised at all the fantastic support received to help the Dogs’ Home.
After the tragic fire recently at the Manchester Dogs’ Home, donations have now passed the £2 million mark. This is the figure which was predicted to re-build the shelter.
The majority of the money, more than £1.4 million came from the Just Giving page set up by the M.E.N. on the night of the fire, in which 60 dogs died. Around another £500,000 has been made in separate donations since the tragedy on September 11th.
With staff at the Dogs’ Home believing it will take every penny to rebuild the kennels destroyed in the blaze.
Manchester Dogs’ Home manager Lisa Graham said “The scale of the work we have to do is enormous, but there is a lot of hope. Because of the donations we’ve seen, Manchester Dogs’ Home will have a chance at rebuilding a kennel area that we never could have achieved under other circumstances.”
As news of the fire spread, hundreds of people drove to the home to donate bags of food, blankets and dog crates. Four donations poured in every second to the M.E.N.’s Just Giving Page, raising £1,466,265 in total. Overwhelmed staff said thank you was not enough to all the people who have helped.
