The news of planned change to bring more rail passengers to the airport is going to be better for the local roads and Car Hire Luton Airport would hope that it would mean more people considering the hire car option.
Rail services look set to be increased to serve Luton Airport, as a spokesperson has welcomed the move. Oliver Jaycock, general manager, marketing for Luton Airport told a business meeting that, “it would make a difference if there was a reliable and frequent service 24 hours a day.”
This is due to the fact that many people drive to the airport as there is limited rail service from London. Documents supporting the rail franchise, state that there must be a minimum of two trains per hour arriving at Luton Airport Parkway between 3am and 6.59am.
The franchise will be responsible for planning and delivering rail services a wide net of the South, while some think it could be negative, Rail Minister Simon Burns said, “We are now looking for innovative bids that provide value for money for taxpayers and put passengers right back at the heart of our railways.”
The successful bids will be announced some time in May 2014, with the franchise running for seven years.
