Good news for all Rod Stewart fans as Car Hire Glasgow Airport announce that the new concert building is complete and ready for hosting events.
The new Hydro venue in Glasgow which has cost £125 million has been completed after worry it would not receive the relevant safety certificate in time for the opening performance, by Rod Stewart at the 12,000 seat arena. The keys have been handed over to the operator Scottish Exhibition Centre Limited.
John Sharkey, chief executive of SEC Ltd, said he was “delighted with the project team that had worked to 100% capacity to finish the building on time. Building our new arena has been a very complex project, with a big team behind it and not without its challenges including the fire that broke out on site during a key stage of the construction.”
There had been a blaze in June which caused damage to the roof of the arena, which made completion on time a worry. Gordon Anderson, executive general manager of main contractor Lend Lease, said “The Hydro had been a hugely challenging and incredibly complex project. It is with great pleasure that I can confirm the practical completion of this project and I’m proud to finally hand over the keys to John. That we are standing here at this incredible venue is testament to the hard work, professionalism and diligence of not only the Lend Lease team working on the project, but also the entire workforce and supply chain involved in the project since the first foundations were constructed in February 2011.”
