Leeds Bradford Airport recently announced that passengers will now be able to fly directly to Rotterdam for the Yorkshire-based airport. Having added Cologne to their portfolio earlier this year, it is clear that the company are keen to cater for the European city break market.
Located in the South Holland, a southern region of the Netherlands, Rotterdam is a popular destination with British tourists for its architecture and nightlife, and the city also boasts the largest cargo port in Europe.
The expansion comes in response to the rise in customer demand, with the number of local people booking short city trips rising by 40 per cent year-on-year, according to reports. Steve Heapy, chief executive at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “City trips are certainly increasing in popularity, especially in Yorkshire.”
He added: “It’s our biggest programme yet, giving customers the best possible choice of great value breaks to some of the most popular cities in Europe. I’m confident we’ll be seeing further growth over the coming year.”
The addition of the Rotterdam route takes the number of Jet2CityBreaks available from Leeds Bradford Airport to 25. Other popular destinations include Amsterdam, Pisa, Paris, Prague, and Rome.
