Some of the staff at Car Hire Edinburgh Airport will be jealous of those who get to experience the new security technology at the airport first during this month.
The new look security lounge at Edinburgh Airport will get its first public viewing this month as part of testing ahead of the £25 million facility’s launch. Selected groups of people will be directed through the new feature, which has facial recognition technology, giving staff time to test the new hand luggage scanners. The trials will mean the facility will be partially open for the Ryder Cup in September.
Chief Executive Gordon Dewar said “We’re at a very exciting point in the build now where we’ve essentially completed construction of the extension. The internal fit-out of our new security hall is now well under way with state-of-the-art security equipment being installed to improve the passenger journey through the airport.”
The most recent expansion of the airport will double as a second entrance with new shops and airport offices when it is formally unveiled in October. The existing security hall will be changed into new duty free shopping as part of the next phase of development. Airport bosses also confirmed that both security halls would run at the same time for several weeks to ensure the smooth running of the new facility.
