Newcastle Airport has announced that it will become the official sponsor of the League Two football club Carlisle United for the next three and a half years, in a deal announced earlier this month.
Carlisle United’s home ground will undergo a transformation as Newcastle Airport’s logo and corporate branding will be evident at Brunton Park’s Warwick Road End.
The sponsorship deal comes in the aftermath of the devastating Storm Desmond, which wreaked havoc in the area throughout December 2015. The deal will last until later summer 2019.
John Irving, business development director at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are delighted to link up with Carlisle United and look forward to developing our partnership with both the club and its supporters.
“The people of Cumbria are important customers of Newcastle Airport. Everyone connected with the airport was very concerned to see the awful flooding in parts of Cumbria and surrounding areas including at the club itself.
“Hopefully this partnership will help both the club and supporters to start to recover from these events.”
Phil King, sales and marketing director at Carlisle United, commented on the sponsorship deal:
“We started to discuss the opportunity with Newcastle International Airport in August last year, to speak about the possibility of developing a working partnership, and I have to say they have been absolutely fantastic with us.
“There’s always a worry with an event as big as the storm and the floods we saw in December that it could have an impact on more than just the fixtures and fittings, but it was made clear from the moment the extent of the damage was known that this deal was not going to be affected in any way.”
