This month, Newcastle Airport has celebrated flying one million passengers to the Spanish city of Barcelona. The route, which was introduced to Newcastle Airport 12 years ago, carries passengers to the beautiful city of Barcelona five times a week for the low price of £24.24.
Earlier this month, the Easyjet operated flight celebrated its milestone in style. Easyjet, which is Newcastle Airport’s largest and Europe’s leading airline, celebrated by gifting one unsuspecting couple the holiday of their dreams. The lucky recipients of this gift were recently engaged couple Michael Shipley and Katherine Brennan from County Durham. The leading airline gifted them two free flights to anywhere they wanted on the Easyjet network, and the couple couldn’t be happier; speaking earlier this month, the couple said:
“This is such a surprise and a great start to our trip! Barcelona is one of our favourite cities and the flights easyJet have given us will definitely come in use for our wedding plans or honeymoon!”
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, commented on the milestone:
“We’re really excited to be celebrating flying one million people between Newcastle and Barcelona today. Congratulations to our millionth passenger Michael Shipley and his fiancée Katherine who were given some free flights on us to celebrate this milestone!
“We have come a long way since launching the first flight to the Spanish city 12 years ago. Newcastle is an important market for easyJet and with routes to 15 sun, city and ski destinations, there is certainly something for everyone.”
