It is great to hear that there is more planned investment in improving the passenger experience at Edinburgh Airport. Iain at Car Hire Edinburgh Airport is looking forward to the time when it is all completed and likes some of the ideas mentioned.
An investment programme of £150 million to make Edinburgh Airport one of the best airports in the UK has been announced. Included in this is a £25 million expansion of the airport terminal building.
It will be 6,000 sq m facility will be built around a wider security area making it easier and quicker for passengers passing through. Jobs will be created in construction during the building work. New retail and business centre with offices are also planned in.
Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport chief executive, said: “Our expansion is a significant mark of our intent to transform our customers’ experience of Edinburgh Airport through high-quality facilities, outstanding customer service and one of the best direct international route networks in Europe.
The planned extension will move into the space where the coach park currently is, moving the terminal access closer to the new tram stop. With the security area being moved it will free up space for more passengers and retail outlets, including a walk through store.
Mr Dewar continued, “This investment is the first of a number of developments that will build Edinburgh Airport’s profile around the world, helping us to compete more energetically with other UK airports and those in mainland Europe.”
Work will begin in October with the new security area in working use by late 2014 and the retail space to follow the year after.
