Preston Bus Station Transferred to the County Council

Easirent Preston Car and Van Hire are pleased that the Bus Station will be kept in the new deal to revamp the area.

The Preston Bus Station has been moved over to the county council for £1 by Preston City Council. It was decided in December last year by the city council to approve a deal with County Hall for them to take ownership of the building.

It is believed the building is a grade II listed architectural gem by the government. The main part of the deal means the main building still is used as a bus station and multi-storey car park, with the units inside being available for other purposes. There is land around the site which is potentially going to be sold off and netting the city council a share of the profit if it is over £8.3 million. This is the figure which is to be spent by them to improve the Bus Station, as part of the deal.

The building was listed last year in September and has been hailed by English Heritage as a masterpiece of brutalist architecture. It had in the past been pushed to be demolished and even rejected a bid from millionaire businessman Simon Rigby and his consortium.
