There is the chance for Liverpool to continue the good start to the season against Swansea tonight, but Car Hire Liverpool Airport hope the Anfield club can keep a former player at bay in aiming to get three points.
The focus tonight will for the most part be on Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers returning to his former club, but there will be another twist in the form of Jonjo Shelvey who left the Anfield club for Swansea in the summer in a £5 million deal.
Considered mainly as a squad player at Liverpool, he decided to make the switch to enhance his chances of breaking in to the England set-up after receiving admiring remarks from England manager Roy Hodgson, but also for the lure of first-team football.
Shelvey said: “It’s a big thing, trying to knock Steven Gerrard out of the team. If you had a really good game the next week you might still be out because the likes of Gerrard are coming back. Imagine that. And you can’t argue with it — it’s crazy how good he is. Brendan told me I could stay there and see what happened. It really was my choice. I wasn’t pushed. But I wanted to play football. I would hate to be one of those sitting on my money. It is in my character, the way I was brought up. Even Brendan said: ‘You’re not one of these squad players happy to stand around.'”
Hodgson is a believer in wanting to pick players who are playing regular football, and Rodgers gave Shelvey the choice of staying but has decided to take the chance at Swansea and has been impressive so far this season in their midfield despite the start they have made to the campaign.
