Car Hire Stansted Airport manager Chris is delighted at the news of a boost in passenger numbers at the airport as it is contributing to car hire bookings over the festive period.
Stansted Airport has had a boost in its profits thanks to passengers packing onto planes with airline Ryanair. It has resulted in the third airport in London being the fastest-growing base in the South-East over the past six months.
The 12% surge in travellers to 11.3 million helped to boost underlying profits at owner, Manchester Airports Group (MAG), by 9% to £182.9 million in the half year to October.
MAG said Stansted is now handling two million more passengers a year than when it was bought, and today added the unusual point that its branches of Burger King and Starbucks are the busiest in Europe, the latter pouring 370,000 coffees in the six months.
Finance boss Neil Thompson, however, said “Unlike other London airports, Stansted has spare runway capacity today and significant room to grow in the future and it is vital faster rail services are delivered between London and Stansted to ensure this potential is utilised.”
