New high tech ePassport gates have been officially inaugurated last week at Stansted Airport by Immigration and Security Minister James Brokenshire, who believes the fight against terrorism.
The Tory member, who serves on the National Security Council, tested one of the 15 second generation scanners, which use facial recognition technology to provide identity and security checks in seconds.

The automatic gates have been jointly funded by the Home Office and Manchester Airports Group, which is investing £260 million over the next five years improving passenger’s services and facilities. There are currently 109 ePassport gates in use at 18 airport terminals across the UK and the roll-out will continue for the next two years.
