Well the Car Hire Stansted Airport branch can put the F.A Cup dream to one side for another year after being knocked out at the weekend.
The F.A Cup trip for Stansted is over after defeat in the extra preliminary round to Ipswich Wanderers at Bishop Stortford FC’s ProKit UK Stadium on Sunday.
Paul Attfield’s men never got into a good tempo and a poor end to the first half saw the home side concede two goals which effectively killed off their chances of progressing in the competition. The game began with both sides looking nervous and not much fluency from either side. The first chance came after ten minutes but the Ipswich striker blasted his effort over the bar.
The final 15 minutes of the first half saw the visitors dictate the play and created various chances and after forty three minutes they took a deserved lead when a fierce shot was well saved, but the cross back in was headed home powerfully. Two minutes later Wanderers doubled the lead when they struck home with a free kick from 40 yards which took a faint deflection on its way past the Stansted keeper.
The second period began with a Stansted side playing at a much better tempo and after 50 minutes two excellent free kicks were saved, the first was parried away by the keeper and the second looked goal bound only for the keeper to fingertip it on to the post. Despite a triple substitution on 63 minutes from the home side, the Ipswich defence remained strong to deny Stansted any further good opportunities and they progressed to the next round.
