It was recently revealed that Ibis, one of the world’s most successful hotel chains, is set to open a new hotel in Dyce’s ABZ Business Park, which lies adjacent to Aberdeen International Airport, after proposals were approved by city council planners. Building work is scheduled to start early next year, and the hotel is expected to open in Summer 2017. The hotel will feature 156 bedrooms, and will be perfectly located to meet the demands of travellers using the airport. With over 3 million passengers passing through the airport each year, that demand is certainly high. The company already has a hotel in the Shiprow area of Aberdeen, comprising of 107 rooms, but the new Ibis will become the largest of its kind in the city.
Ibis has been hugely successful since opening their first hotel in the mid-1970s, and now operate over 1000 hotels in over 50 countries, including Japan, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia. The company will presumably be excited at the prospect of increasing their presence in Scotland, where they currently have just 4 hotels, including 2 in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow. The new premises in Aberdeen are sure to be a welcome addition to travellers coming into Aberdeen through the airport, and the hotel is also likely to provide a number of new jobs for Aberdeen locals.
