This month, the Drumchapel Table Tennis Club has secured funding from Glasgow Airport to finance a whole range of new equipment including table tennis tables, bats and balls, thanks to Glasgow Airport’s Flightpath Fund.
Almost three thousand pounds has been donated to the Table Tennis Club in Drumchapel, a sports club that works with over 1,500 children from a diverse range of backgrounds. The fund is going towards new equipment for the children to use when they attend one of the many different classes that the Table Tennis Club offers. The club works with children in the area through initiatives such as Active Schools, Glasgow L.I.F.E, Table Tennis Scotland and Scottish Disability Sport.
Currently, the Drumchapel Table Tennis Club has four members of staff and 20 volunteers delivering their programme of events, which include breakfast clubs, lunch clubs, after school clubs and summer clubs.
Terry McLernon from Drumchapel Table Tennis Club said: “This new equipment will help sustain the club and we are extremely grateful to Glasgow Airport’s Flightpath Fund for its generous support. We know that giving young people the opportunity to get involved in sports like table tennis can boost their confidence, improve motivation and enhance their performance at school, as well as improving their overall fitness levels. We’re looking forward to receiving the new equipment just in time for the start of the new school term.”
