Are you heading to Glasgow this summer? Make sure you don’t miss the Mackintosh Festival 2015. Pick up your Easirent hire car from our Glasgow Airport depot and drive less than nine miles to Glasgow City Centre to the birthplace of one of Glasgow’s most famous sons. For the whole month of October, Glasgow will be celebrating the life of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born in Glasgow in 1868 and is an iconic designer in the post impressionist movement and considered the main representation of Art Nouveau in the United Kingdom. Influenced by Glasgow’s role as one of the biggest production centres for heavy engineering and shipbuilding in the world during the industrial revolution, Mackintosh was inspired by the mass production and the emerging modernist ideas of the time.
October is Charles Rennie Mackintosh month in Glasgow and there will be plenty for all ages to enjoy including exhibitions, events and ours. The programme of events, which are organised by Glasgow city council, will focus on architecture, design and visual art and crafts, in the town that Mackintosh lived and worked.
There will be events taking place in venues across the whole of the city centre, so you can take advantage of your Easirent hire car and visit them all. There will be free workshops and exhibitions scattered across the city as well as ticketed tours and social evenings with food and drink.
Book onto the Mackintosh at the Glasgow School of Art Tour or the Mackintosh Queen’s Cross on Wednesdays and discover one of Glasgow’s hidden gems.
