Visit Edinburgh this summer and experience the city spring to life with cultural events to entertain the entire family. Edinburgh’s famous fringe festival runs throughout the summer months, coinciding with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which wows visitors throughout August.
Hundreds of thousands of international visitors flock to the city each year to witness the unique military performance, which is now in its 65th year. The event was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 with a ‘Royal Title’ for the Tattoo’s 60 years of service to entertainment and culture, and it continues to draw in crowds and performers from across the globe.
The event is run for charitable purposes, and since its inception has raised millions of pounds for local and international charities.
This year promises to be the biggest and best year yet; expect massed military bands, display teams, dancers, pipe players, drums and the festival’s famous Lone Piper, Major Gavin Stoddart, who has taken up the position from his father Pipe Major George Stoddart, who was the festival’s first Lone Piper player. Get the family ready to sing along to the Robert Burn’s classic Auld Lang Syne, which closes every tattoo performance.
The tattoo, which is set in the haunting grounds of Castle Esplanade, Edinburgh runs from Friday 7th August to Saturday 29th August 2015 and ticket prices range from £25 – £63. Make sure you book early as the event is sure to sell out. Are you looking for somewhere to stay during the festival? Check out Easirent’s Top 10 Hotels in the city.
