Another positive year for the Great Scottish Run as Car Hire Glasgow Airport bring news of a former great from athletics taking part.
First held in 1982, there were some of the world’s top athletes on show as the Glasgow Great Scottish Run took place at the weekend with thousands taking part. It started at George Square and the finish line was at Glasgow Green, with former Olympic and World Champion Haile Gebrselassie taking the half marathon crown with a new course record of 61 minutes and nine seconds.
Following his victory, Gebrselassie said, “After losing out in the last mile at the Bupa Great North Run I had to get clear today and decided to make my move when I did and it worked so well, I’m happy with this win.”
In the women’s half marathon three Scots finished in the top four places, with Leeds-based Susan Partridge taking first. People expected to take part in either the half marathon or the 10k event were Scottish Finance Minister John Swinney, Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Emmerdale actors Chris Chittell and Eden Taylor.
Both courses took runners past city landmarks such as the new Hydro concert venue and the RiversideMuseum. There were some disruptions to the starting of both runs as train engineering work delayed some runners making it on time.
