Top 4 Activities on the Wirral

Pick up your Easirent hire car from our Bootle branch and take a road trip to the Wirral for a fun packed family day out. Just a short drive through either the Kingsway or the Queensway tunnel is the Wirral Peninsula, and you’ll find plenty of things to keep you entertained while you’re there, from fascinating architecture to space-themed days out and interesting museums. Here at Easirent we have selected some of our favourite things to do on the Wirral, so that you can make the most of your day out.

1. Wirral Tramway and Wirral Transport Museum

Located in Birkenhead, the Wirral Tramway and Wirral Transport Museum is just a 20 minute drive in your Easirent hire car from our Bootle branch. Birkenhead was once a pioneering industrial town and subsequently became the first place in Europe to adopt a street tramway; now, visitors can take a trip from Woodside Ferry Terminal to the Wirral Transport Museum on a restored Baby Grand Tram, the last surviving tram of its kind, and winner of ‘Tram of the Year’.

2. Hilbre Island

Hilbre Island is the perfect destination for anyone who feels like having a mini-walking adventure with a difference. Located in the mouth of the Dee Estuary, Hilbre Island is an important migration point for many birds along the West coast of the Wirral and is also home to a wide variety of wildfowl and waders. Hilbre Island’s West Hoyle sandbank is also home to large numbers of Grey Seals and whales and dolphins are also known to have been sighted off the coast of the island. Make sure that you call ahead before your visit to Hilbre Island to find out the tidal times. It is also important to remember that there are no shops, toilets, fresh water points or shelters on the island, so make sure that you come well prepared and bring plenty of water.

3. Spaceport

Hop in your Easirent hire car and head to Spaceport, the immersive, interactive experience which teaches visitors about all the wonders of the universe. Take the kids along for a fact-packed day of intergalactic exploration and learn about how the Moon controls the tides on Earth, how fast the speed of light actually is, and then finish up at the planetarium for a stargazing session. There is plenty of parking for your Easirent hire car on site, you can even take this opportunity to take a Mersey Ferry Tour, as the Spaceport is based next to the Mersey Ferry Terminal.

4. Lady Lever Art Gallery

Soak up a bit of culture in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, home to one of the UK’s finest collections of fine and decorative art. Nestled in the heart of Port Sunlight, on the Wirral, the gallery was founded by William Lever and is dedicated to the memory of his wife Elizabeth Lever.
