London is buzzing with different activities and days out and sometimes it’s difficult to decide how to best use your time when you’re in the capital. As with most other capital cities, London prices are slightly higher than other destinations in the United Kingdom. So, here at Easirent we have compiled a list of our favourite days out in the city, and as you probably can already guess – they’re completely free! So pick up your Easirent hire car from our London Stansted Airport Depot and head to the capital for some frugal fun on us.
1. Natural History Museum
London’s Natural History Museum is probably one of the most famous, and certainly the most visited of the London museums. A combination of both a museum and a research institution, visitors are welcomed into the museum’s entrance hall by a cast of a Diplodocus skeleton. And the awe-inspiring exhibits don’t stop there; the ever popular animatronic dinosaurs are currently taking up residence in the Natural History Museum, with the terrifying T-Rex a hit with adults and children alike.
2. The British Library
Home to some of the world’s most famous works of literature, The British Library houses a copy of every single publication that the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland has ever printed; that’s a massive 150 million items, and with over three million items added each year, you probably won’t have time to visit each and every one of them, but you can certainly see the highlights. Make sure to check out the original Beatles manuscripts, William Shakespeare’s First Folio, Handel’s Messiah and drafts of the Magna Carta.
3. Coram’s Fields Playground
If you’re looking for somewhere to keep the kids entertained while you’re in London, then Coram’s Fields Playground is probably the most child friendly green space and play area in the city centre. On the grounds of the former Thomas Coram Foundling Hospital, which was founded in 1747 to care for unwanted babies, the Coram Fields Playground has carried on in this caring vein ever since. The rules of the playground are simple: adults are only admitted if they’re under the supervision of a child. Once inside you’ll find a walled garden, a sandpit, climbing frames, a zip wire and adventure playground. The playground is situated just a 35 minute drive in your Easirent hire car from our London Stansted Airport depot.
4. Theatre Royal Stratford East
Pick up your Easirent hire car from our London Stansted Airport depot and head to the Theatre Royal Stratford East. This lovely little community theatre was once a very influential performance venue in London. Nowadays, the Theatre Royal Stratford East stages musicals, touring shows and pantomimes and has a lively, atmospheric bar area. On Monday evenings, spectators are invited to come along to the free comedy evening, which is London’s longest running free comedy night and features a whole host of comedians from 20:00.
5. British Museum
Another free, iconic institution of this list is the British Museum, one of the world’s oldest museums and home to millions of individual objects dating back centuries. The top attractions in the British Museum include mummies, the Rosetta Stone and the Sutton Hoo ship.
