Top 5 Stately Homes near Glasgow airport

Heading to Glasgow Airport and looking for ways to soak up the Scottish culture? Why not take a trip to some of Scotland’s most stunning stately homes in your Easirent hire car? Here at Easirent we have selected some of our favourite historc houses for you to explore. So, all that you have to do, is pick up your hire car from our Glasgow Airport branch, and be on your way.

1. Ballindalloch Castle

Ballindoch Castle is a stunning grey stone structure near Grantown-on-Spey, and has been the home of the Macpherson-Grants since 1546. You’ll be experiencing a real slice of Scottish heritage here, as the Macpherson-Grants were the family that famously founded the Aberdeen Angus cattle. Open to visitors between March and September each year, the house has a fine collection of Spanish paintings on display.

2. Bowhill Estate

Hop in your Easirent hire car and head to Bowhill Estate, a lovely historic house which is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch. Housing one of the finest collections of art in the country, Bowhill is also home to a very well restored Victorian Kitchen. Open to the public between March and August each year, it is still recommended that visitors call ahead before they arrive, to check the opening times.

3. Dunrobin Castle

Dunrobin Castle is located quite a drive from our Easirent branch at Glasgow Airport, but if you’re heading off on a Scottish road trip, then it’s worth including on your bucket list. The most northerly of the great Scottish castles, Dunrobin castle is everything that you’d imagine a castle should be, right down to the beautiful turrets. Dating back from the 14th century, the castle was extensively renovated by Sir Charles Barry in 1845 and much of the interior was remodelled in 1915 following fire damage.

4. Manderston House

Less than 100 miles from our Easirent branch at Glasgow Airport, Manderston House is an Edwardian house which was constructed for Sir James Miller in the early 1900s. One of the most breathtaking aspects of the house’s interiors is the silver staircase, which was modelled on the Petit Trianon in Versailles. When you’e finished exploring the interior, why not take a walk through Manderston House’s extensive 56 acres of land.

5. Gosford House

Pick up your Easirent hire car from our Glasgow Airport branch and head to Gosford House, which is just a 70 mile drive away. Designed by Robert Adam in a Roman Thermae design, Gosford House is home to a fine collection of art and the grounds are home to an array of wildlife, including Greylag geese.
