The Car Hire Stansted Airport branch are pleased that the work is now complete on the rail link to the airport meaning up to double the services are now available for passengers.
The busy Cambridge to Stansted Airport rail line has had its services doubled, providing an extra 1,700 seats on eight trains running in both directions from Monday to Friday.
The new timetable was launched by rail minister Claire Perry, who said “Strong transport links are the key to our long-term economic plan, which is why we are investing £38 billion over the next five years on maintaining and improving our railways. I am pleased to see companies like Abellio, Cross Country and Stansted Airport working together to give passengers better services.”
It is part of the direct award franchise agreement between Abellio Greater Anglia and the Department for Transport to enhance the existing timetable operated by Cross Country.
Stansted Airport’s managing director Andrew Harrison said “Cambridge is a world leading centre for innovation and bio-medical research, and a new half hourly service to the airport will make Stansted more accessible to the city, opening up over 160 international destinations in just a short journey time of 30 minutes. We now need to move ahead urgently and make further progress with early morning services and improvements to rail links to London through the introduction of faster journey times that will underpin our drive for growth at Stansted – a priority that was recognised by the Airports Commission.”
