Situated in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen lies the small village of Edgworth. It is a picturesque location with North Turton to the south west. Although the small village has rural characteristics, during the 19th century the village had a booming textiles industry.
Five small hamlets make up the area of the village – Quarlton, Turton Bottoms, Entwistle, Round Barn and Whitestone Head. Edgworth has a rich history, with Anglo-Saxon origins and has had many spellings from ‘Eggwrthe’ in 1212 to ‘Eggewoth’ in 1292.
Edworth is renowned to walkers due to its picturesque landscapes and spectacular views. The two large reservoirs, Wayoh Reservoir and Turton and Entwistle Reservoir, which are featured on the popular walking routes, supply water to the Bolton area. Edworth also appears to walkers due to its many fine pubs and restaurants and has its own Bed and Breakfast establishment. A nice fact for sports fans, Edworth is home to Lancashire’s oldest football club, Turton FC.
So whether an avid walker or a huge sports fan, Edgworth has something for all. So why not call Easirent Car and Van Hire in Blackburn and hire a car or minibus, if there is a big group of you, and set off to Edworth, take in the spectacular views and absorb the village’s history.
