Several long-term unemployed military veterans are amongst a number of people to land posts at a new PCVu Windows Factory.
The project, funded by Glasgow City Council, is to install new PVCu windows in schools across the city of Glasgow. Roles were secured through the Glasgow Veterans Employment Programme.
Based at City Building’s Queenslie training complex, the windows factory is expected to create 30 permanent jobs in the area across manufacturing, surveying and installation.
Its official opening follows major investment by Glasgow City Council in new PVCu windows in schools across the city.
So far, £10m of new windows contracts have been identified.
The veterans are now undergoing training on windows manufacturing.
Ex-serviceman Jon Collins, one of the four veterans recruited for the factory, said: “It’s great to get the opportunity to get back to work through RSBi and to put our existing skills from our military careers with the new vocational skills which will enable us to plan for success in the long term.”
Easirent Car Hire at Glasgow Airport thinks this is an excellent project to help both the unemployment in the city as well as improving the conditions of the local schools.
