It will be shopping madness but Laura at Car Hire Liverpool Airport would love to spend Friday shopping in the city centre.
Dubbed the ‘day of the deal’, Black Friday will arrive in Liverpool after days of hype. What is this day all about? And where will shoppers be able to grab a bargain in the city?
Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, the fourth Thursday of November, which is often regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Visa Europe are predicting that £360,000 will be spent every minute, or £6,000 per second, on its cards.
Bill Addy, Chief Executive of Liverpool BID Company says “Black Friday is a huge day for retailers and many will have been preparing for it for well over a month. Of course, it’s not just this Friday. Most retailers will take a third of their annual takings over the next four weeks, so it’s make or break time for many of them.”
It will not just be the big retail chains taking part in the day, with local Liverpool businesses like, Nicola Harris Beauty offering half price Rodial, Guinot and Agera products on Friday. Nicola says “We decided to get involved this year as we wanted to give something back to our clients for all their support. With half price they can afford to purchase a treat rather than just their essentials.”
Some supermarket chains will be involved with Sainsbury’s and Asda offering some mega saving deals. Another saving will be on vouchers with shops like Urban Calm in the Metquarter offering every gift voucher purchased over £30 get a second voucher offering 50% free.
The other point to remember is many retailers will not take back sale stock from Black Friday, so any gifts bought just think carefully. Parking could also become an issue so consider public transport or catch a lift off a friend to save on paying for parking or not finding a space.
