There is some intense finger crossing amongst the fans who work at Car Hire Birmingham Airport who hope an agreement can happen so the player does sign.
There could be a sensational return for Nikola Zigic to Birmingham City football club. The tall centre forward has started training with the club, after only being released in the summer.
The 34-year-old and his family still live in the South Birmingham area and are well settled. Although Blues did offer him a fresh deal at the end of last season, no agreement was reached.
And despite being linked to a move to Arsenal, Zigic has been kicking his heels ever since helping Blues escape relegation on the final day, scoring in the dramatic comeback at Bolton Wanderers and then having a header cleared off the line that Paul Caddis then nodded in.
With a new manager in Gary Rowett at the helm, there have been fresh talks and the upshot is that the 6ft 8in Serbian star has clocked on again at Blues training HQ.
Rowett said, “Obviously he is a player who is available and I am aware of the contribution to this club over the last four years. We have had a chat and invited him to come and train with us. It’s just a mutual thing at present: we can have a look at him, he can have a look at us and how we do things as we are a new management team. Nikola is aware of the financial boundaries in place. But he is keen to stay and play in this country and I am sure this club still means a lot to him.”
